For anyone who says things can’t make you happy….well, in my humble opinion, things do infact make me quite giggly! Over the years I have found lots of things make me smile and as I acquire those pieces or items, I find that a beautiful collection should never be piled away in a cabinet; rather, used and enjoyed by me and my guests and visitors. So here are a few of my favorite things!
Linens- For as long as I can remember, my hands have always appreciated a beautifully crafted tablecloth, runner, napkins, place settings, and beaded table pieces. Ruffles, raw edges, linen, polished cotton, macrame art, monograms, prints, plaids, I mean…I could go on! I love a wonderful selection of linens for the home and as I reset my dining table, kitchen island and bar areas for the season or holiday, I love to take a small trip to my first level guest bedroom where I store all linens (there’s just too many to store in a drawer), and go through the collection and pull out desired colors and patterns that will secure my vision for the design. You don’t have to have dozens up dozens of choices, but in my world, I buy what I love. You will always find a place for items that make you smile!
Glassware- Help me on this one. I am forever a passionate collector of glassware as my mother’s best friends growing up had a glass store and we ended up with collections of pressed glass, carnival, milk, and so many others that dazzled my ‘lil artistic heart. I’m a sucker for coupe glass as you can see on the website. I’m holding several in hand as it’s the perfect expression for a cocktail—the sleek, feminine stem with the elegant bell atop presenting a full surface of nothing but flavor and adventure. Highballs, rocks glass, etched glass or crystal, coupes, flutes, white and red wine glasses, unique cuts and angles… I absolutely love and adore a stunning glass. It just looks good!
Fiddleleaf Fig Trees- If there’s one thing I adore, it’s the beauty of fresh greenery in the home. I used to have many palm trees, monsteras, and tons of indoor pots, but over the years, I’ve found that I love the Fiddleleaf Fig tree—and boy do they love me. The secret is to place it in an area that will grab the most natural light and LEAVE THEM ALONE. I water once a week with warm water, fertilize every 6 months, but after that I let them be. I will turn the plant 45° every 3 months to allow all angles to fill in and be kissed by the light, but after many years of raising my beautiful Starla 7’ tall 9’ wide & Figourney Weaver, 3’ tall 3’ wide, I can promise you, you speak kindly and provide the right setting for them….they will flourish and love you back
