Style and fashion are important to me. Over the years, I learned the hard way that my 5’1” curvy frame can’t handle every trend pouring out by all influencers and designers. A long while ago there was a show called, “What Not To Wear” hosted by Stacy London and Clinton Kelly. The purpose of the show was to take everyday women and show them how dressing for their silhouette could change their entire perspective of their life. My sister and I would watch show after show to learn body types, how to edit yourself in dress, and how to choose what really looked good. From that show I learned that my best attributes and never looked back. My sister and I always talk about that show and how instrumental it was. We learned SO much about ourselves, but don’t worry… we are far from fashion models, but when you have just a touch of gumption, some new fashions can be fun!

If anyone were to ask if I had a uniform—the go to look on the daily, they’re going to say, “Kami loves a button down with jean and a blazer.” That look, no matter if its sleek business pants, a funky vintage tshirt, or a blouse with a stunning neckline…its always a blousy look on top and a fitted look on the bottom. My silhouette is hourglass and with my larger chest, I have found that it creates balance and beauty for me. One piece that is always fun to play with is blazers. I am obsessed with oversized as you can see on the website. Pop that collar, add a decorative pin, push up those sleeves and go! But if there’s one thing I’ve come to realize with all blazers whether they’re tweed, wool, cotton or linen, I always seem to rub my bronzer or any makeup on my face/chin/neck on the collar. It truly grinded the nerve as I want to be very put together and comfortable, but the bronzer smudge is not so cute. I had an idea…what if I just added a scarf around my neck and created a beautiful barrier from make-up to the blazer collar?….it works! So now as you can see in a few of my photos, I have placed a beautiful silky scarf around my neck to create a stunning addition of pattern and color, but its function is to catch that make-up smudge so not all blazers and jackets are needed for wash. So it is much easier and faster to spot clean a scarf than an entire coat!

Always do what works for you and try to allow yourself the pass to try new shapes on, new styles and in the middle of the new looks, think about how you function in that outfit and how can it be improved upon. My uniform will never change—maybe style of jeans maybe, but to allow my passion for the blazer to always be on point with the added scarf to catch make-up…it has really provided a personal look, authentic style, and a way for me to stop worrying in the day. Have fun in that mirror!!
